Various walking paths and hiking trails can be found in Hveragerdi and all great sightseeing opportunities for different landscapes. It’s easy to choose a suitable path in length and difficulty, and still capture the main attractions around the area, including the colorful geothermal area in Reykjadalur and the blooming garden at Fossflöt.
One of the most popular hiking trails is the one leading to a warm river in the Hengil area, where plumes of steam can be seen for miles. The hiking trail is well-marked, and the shortest possible route is roughly 3 km. It is highly recommended that people stay within the marked trail due to the geothermal activity in this area; all hot springs should be approached with caution. The trail has beautiful surroundings and a most colorful landscape.
